Besoke Design for Lapis Lazuli

We are creating a besoke piece for a client utilising her Lapis Lazuli and our resin and

blue semi precious faceted beads.  See our progress to date. 

 

We are aiming to have 2 strands that can be worn independently. 

There will be more pictures as we progress.  Again it has been a lot of fun,

with numerous cups of tea, laughter and conversation about beads, life

and all the other issues facing women today.

Double Strand Modern Pearls

We have been experimenting with a new design - the double strand modern pearls.  They incorporate smooth frosted glass beads, resin, silver and pearls to give an elegant and modern look.  We are testing out the design with both casual and corporate wear this month. 

 

 Some have a ribbon back and others have a smooth metal back.  The design has a hidden flexibility in that the necklace can be extended so that it can be worn as a long piece by attaching extra ribbon or metal.  We think our design is very groovy - we would love feedback on the design.  No two necklaces are the same as we alter the beads so each piece is individual.

 

 

Winter Inspiration

The snow is falling again in Australia and we have those beautiful colours of silver, blue, a snowy grey and an amazing kind of green.  That is our inspiration this month for the upcoming

NeckSpice collection.

Young NeckSpice Designer Branches Out

This is "work experience week" in Melbourne for lots of students.  Our young NeckSpice designer Chloe was lucky enough to secure a placement with the gorgeous Lucy Mora at Hut 13 in Richmond (at 79 Swan Street).  This is one of the funkiest stores stocking the most unusual and colourful handmade home wares, pots, jewellery, and fabulous art.

Express your personality

They say that jewellery is a visual extension of your personality and a form of self expression.  This is true in our third necklace redesign for our friend Justine.  Not only did she spend a lot of time with us redesigning her vintage pearls into a new necklace, she even made the signature bead.  Yes she handcrafted the large bead that is intricately covered in golden seed beads.  She is a corporate high flyer who loves to use her fine craft skills as a way to unwind.  This golden bead is such a wonderful representation of her personality - warm, strong, bright, intricate, creative...the list goes on.  Do you have a bead in your collection that expresses the essence of you?

Caring More About Our Precious Heirlooms

As we were redesigning the second necklace for our client we were discussing

 the value of heirlooms and how they connect you to the past. 

That great feeling that you get from knowing that a loved one has worn these pearls, crystals, faceted glass beads and passed them down to you for new memories to be created. 

Then today we read a really interesting and inspiring article by Wendy Squires about cherishing fashion - we feel that we are cherishing jewels.  By remodelling them we are respecting the past and now giving them a new lease of life for a modern world. 

 

So after numerous cups of tea, a few chocolate biscuits, lots of laughter,

more biscuits and tea -  we present the results of our work.

 

 

 

Redesign Complete

The first in a series of 4 necklaces that we are redesigning is now completed.  We had enough beads to also create a bracelet ... delivered to the client this evening.
 Have already received the "i love it so much" phone call. 
That is what makes this design journey so enjoyable...

Remodelling Pink Quartz

Birthdays are special ... and so a friend's husband surprised her with a NeckSpice gift of remodelling 4 of her precious vintage necklaces.  We started working on the first one last night.  Gorgeous pink quartz from the 80s which have broken and are now in need of an update.  We are experimenting with inserting beaded and crystal beads so that the quartz have a modern statement.  Have a look at our progress...

 

We experimented with different beads in different positions

 and a number of clasps until we settled on a diamond encrusted magnetic clasp

 to give the new necklace a real lift...

 

 

 

As the length will not be as long as the original necklace...and we are adding

some beads...there will be enough pink quartz

to create a bracelet to complement the new NeckSpice creation 

 

...cool, fresh, updated and groovy!!
